Ghanaian economist and KNUST alumnus Aephaniel Owusu-Agyemang is emerging as a thoughtful voice in economic analysis and public policy, driven by a strong commitment to leadership, academic excellence, and sustainable national development.
Born into a humble home, Owusu-Agyemang’s formative years were shaped by discipline, curiosity, and a deep respect for learning.
A defining childhood moment, witnessing the nation mourn the passing of Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Ghana’s former Minister of Finance, sparked his early awareness of the power of economic leadership and public service. Though he did not yet grasp the technicalities of economics, the moment left a lasting impression about national responsibility, impact, and transformation.
His formal educational journey began at Opoku Ware School in Kumasi, where his leadership potential became evident.
He served as a Preparatory Prefect, an early role that reflected his sense of responsibility, organisation, and service to others, traits that would define his academic and professional path.
Owusu-Agyemang later enrolled at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. At KNUST, he developed a strong grounding in economic theory, public finance, and development economics, while nurturing a growing interest in how policy choices intersect with national resources and long-term growth.
He subsequently earned a postgraduate degree in Economics, specialising in Energy and Natural Resource Economics. This advanced training equipped him with strong analytical skills in energy policy, oil and gas economics, econometrics, and sustainable resource management.
His dedication to scholarship and academic rigour was recognised when he was named Postgraduate Student of the Year, underscoring his commitment to excellence within the economics discipline.
Beyond the classroom, Owusu-Agyemang has consistently demonstrated a passion for leadership and service.
During his national service, he rose through advocacy and organisational roles to become Regional President of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), Ashanti Region, where he engaged in youth leadership, policy discussions, and development-oriented initiatives, gaining first-hand exposure to governance and public sector dynamics.
His professional development culminated in earning the globally recognised Certified Chartered Economist® designation, affirming both his technical competence and ethical commitment to the economics profession.
Owusu-Agyemang is also an active public intellectual, contributing to national economic discourse through articles and opinion pieces published on leading Ghanaian platforms, including MyJoyOnline and Business & Financial Times.
His writings focus on macroeconomic stability, energy policy, oil price dynamics, and the broader implications of economic decision-making on Ghana’s growth trajectory.
